Barry Anderson of The Edinburgh News is reporting that Rangers have offered center back Darren McGregor a deal to sign with the club.  The St. Mirren defender has been one of the names rumored to have piqued the interest of manager Ally McCoist & is now also a transfer target for Hearts.

Anderson suggests that Hearts manager Robbie Neilson has also given the 28 year old McGregor a contract proposal to sign with the Edinburgh club but acknowledged that the defender has a “more lucrative deal” from Rangers & that Neilson believes that Hearts “cannot compete with the money being spoken about at Ibrox.”

McGregor joined St. Mirren from Cowdenbeath in 2010 but injuries have limited him in his tenure with the Saints.  He has had a total of  88 appearances in all competitions during that time.  Last season, he was healthy throughout & made 39 appearances in all competitions.  The  6’0 center back committed 21 fouls in that time yet was not booked once.  He had 26 fouls committed against him.

Additionally, former Rangers goalkeeper, Neil Alexander, is on the verge of signing on with Hearts as a player-coach.

  1. Here we go again “hearts cannot compete with the money being spoken about at Rangers” ………………………this lad would have been on a very modest wage at St Mirren (and Hearts if they signed him) but now he looks to be the latest player to enter the ££fantasyhouse where money appears to be no object??!!

In the words of the song…….’They did not listen, they’re not listening still, perhaps they never will’

  2. All the article says is that someone at Hearts says that Rangers have offered more money than Hearts who are just exiting administration themselves and budgeting to play in the championship. There is no confirmation of a deal being offered from Rangers never mind what the wages might be.No matter which players Rangers or any other teams want to sign they do have to offer wages and they might have to offer more than another team.We won`t get a squad of players who want to play for nothing , despite what some of our ex players may be saying in the papers!!
