Trond Roger Whatfield & Steffan Opheim are reporting in BA – Bergensavisen that Rangers are among the clubs expressing interest in signing 18-year old SK Brann defender Andreas Vindheim. The Norwegian U19 defender is best suited to play right back but can also play center-half. He has made seven appearances so far this season for Brann – scoring his only goal in his debut in April & has since added two assists in 630 minutes of play.
Whatfield & Opheim claim that Vindheim is being closely watched not only by Rangers, but also Celtic, Arsenal, Stuttgart, along with other unnamed English & German clubs.
Vindheim, an admitted Liverpool supporter, discussed the interest he is getting from the aforementioned clubs. “Yes, it’s incredibly nice that there is interest. I really appreciate it, so it’s gratifying.”
“Right now I play for Brann and I’m very happy with it. I will work hard for us to get out of the situation we are in.” Brann currently sits in last place in the Tippeligaen after 13 matches.
He added, “I have plenty of time.”
After scoring in his debut, Vindheim has not missed a start in Brann’s defence.
After that first game, Vindheim told BA – Bergensavisen, “The goal is to play myself into the team during the season.”
He has not only played himself into the starting lineup, he has caught the eyes of some of the most famous clubs in Europe.
How viable is the claim that Rangers are tracking Vindheim? It is difficult to say. Their scouting department is basically relying on word-of-mouth from other managers & former players.
That said, there have been whispers lately that Rangers were looking to Scandinavia for talent – so maybe this is what they have uncovered. We shall see.
